COMMITMENT TO SAFEGUARDING PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS
(CHILDREN AND ADULTS)
SARD-Net’s Vision states an “empowered Rural Communities in Uganda where People live with dignity and in harmony with each other, their Environment and God”.
SARD-Net’s work is inspired and informed by Catholic Social Teaching as well as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Children (UNCRC) that Uganda ratified in 1989, which are one of the fundamental principles of which is the dignity of each other. The right to freedom from all forms of exploitation and abuse is implicit in this principle.
SARD-Net recognizes that abuse of power has led, and continues to lead, to many forms of exploitation and abuse. The nature of our work creates a power differential between those employed by or working with SARD-Net and program participants. We acknowledge that the potential exists for those who work with program participants to abuse their position of power.
SARD-Net also recognizes that there are specific needs, vulnerabilities and risks that exist for children and is committed to make every effort to ensure children are safe and protected in its national program work in Uganda.
SARD-Net is therefore committed to ensuring that its policies are fit for purpose and that the actions of its staff, contracted parties and other third parties including volunteers and visitors are always appropriate. We also require that our partner organizations and contractors demonstrate a similar Commitment too.
